Students will be prepared with the knowledge and skills to become informed, thoughtful, and active citizens in a culturally diverse democratic society and complex world.
Science
The science curriculum focuse on help students develop skills rooted in laboratory experimentation, claim or hypothesis creation, evidence gathering and data analysis. All these processes will be justified by the effective writing of findings from lab work within each curriculum topic.
Students will engage with a curriculum that is constructed in three dimensions:
1. Students actively work with science and engineering practices
2. Students explaining their learning process with crosscutting concepts like cause and effect.
3. Students focus on core disciplinary ideas related with their curriculum goals
Math
The Math curriculum provides instructional strategies that include hands-on learning, inquiry-based teaching, conceptual understanding, direct and indirect instruction, data-driven analysis, and real-world applications of math concepts and skills.
We provide our students access to rigorous, challenging, and high-quality mathematics through the development of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and problem-solving applications.
Language and Literature Arts
The Language Arts curriculum is our bilingual program (English and Spanish) that supports literacy development through both integrated experiences and the teaching of discrete skills such as: speaking and listening, reading and viewing, and writing and representing concepts.
The curriculum supports multiple literacies at all levels which enable students to interact with a variety of digital, live, and paper texts. Students also increase their knowledge, experience, and control of language in a creative way.
Art
The arts curriculum is designed to provide the student with basic and advanced skills in the areas of visual arts, applied arts, and crafts.
The courses are designed with an emphasis on individualized instruction, which allows development of skills in areas of the student’s own choosing. Every student is an artist, and every class is a canvas.
Physical Education
The physical education curriculum focuses on helping students develop healthy, active lifestyles by experiencing a balance of physical activities in a positive, responsible, and cooperative environment.
These activities include the movement areas of dance, fitness, adventure/cooperative education, and sports/games. It is through these experiences that we address the diverse needs of our students in the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive domains.
STEAM
The STEAM curriculum is our approach to teaching and learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math to guide student inquiry, discussions, and critical thinking.
The course gives students a chance to combine concepts and knowledge from across different technical disciplines to create deeper understanding of their environment and solve real world problems through meaningful, engaged learning. It also incorporates the arts into this framework by recognizing that in order to be successful in technical fields, students must also be creative.
